Beckett and Intertextuality. 11th Annual Conference of the Samuel Beckett Society. Antwerp, May 2026

The 11th annual conference of the Samuel Beckett Society recently took place at the University of Antwerp. Over three days, the event titled Beckett and Intertextuality brought together a wide range of contributors, both well-established and early career, representing scholarship from around the world. The Society was particularly delighted to welcome the contributions of its four Ruby Cohn bursary recipients: Minfang Hu, Niloofar Rezaee, Kaitlin Thurlow and Hugh Deasy.

In addition, the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Beckett Studies was celebrated with the launch of a special issue on the library of Samuel Beckett. To mark the donation of Beckett’s personal library to the University of Reading, and its subsequent residence in the University of Antwerp, an exhibition of a selection of the books from the collection was launched in the University Library.

The conference ended with a performance from the Samuel Beckett Laboratory at Trinity College Dublin of Mittelalterliches Dreieck / Medieval Triangle based on Beckett’s early dramatic fragment.
